Empowering Persons with Disabilities Through Sustainable Livelihoods
Friends of Paraplegics (FOP) is committed to promoting economic independence and dignity for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). Recognizing that financial stability is one of the key challenges faced by our community, FOP launched the Apna Rozgar Program—a self-employment and livelihood support initiative designed to help PwDs start their own small businesses and become financially self-reliant.
Many individuals with disabilities struggle to secure formal employment due to accessibility barriers, limited opportunities, or mobility challenges. The Apna Rozgar Program provides a practical solution by enabling participants to earn income from their homes or local environments, based on their abilities, interests, and entrepreneurial potential.
Supported Business Types:
Through generous collaboration with national and international partners, FOP has successfully supported 100+ Persons with Disabilities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in establishing sustainable small businesses. These individuals are now earning a stable income and contributing meaningfully to their households and communities—proving that disability is not a barrier to productivity, talent, or ambition.

The Apna Rozgar Program has transformed lives by empowering Persons with Disabilities to achieve financial stability and regain confidence in their future.
Fatima, a wheelchair user from Mardan, always wanted to support her family but lacked resources to start her own work. Through Apna Rozgar, she received a sewing machine and fabric starter kit, along with guidance on marketing local stitching services.
Today, Fatima manages a small home-based sewing unit, earns a regular income, and proudly supports her household. Her story reflects how a small opportunity can spark meaningful change.
Rafique, affected by spinal cord injury, faced difficulties in traveling for employment. FOP helped him establish a small neighborhood grocery shop accessible from his home.
With continuous mentorship on inventory management and pricing, his shop now provides a stable livelihood. Rafique is not only self-reliant but also a respected community member and provider for his family.
Ahmed, a young man with lower limb paralysis, possessed mobile repair skills but lacked the financial means to start a shop. Under the Apna Rozgar Program, he received a toolkit, display rack, and initial working capital.
Today, he successfully runs a repair stall in his local market, serving dozens of customers weekly. What began as support is now a sustainable business that fuels both income and self-esteem.
Shazia, a paraplegic woman in Dir Lower, struggled with economic dependence. With training and a sewing machine provided by FOP, she has established a home-based tailoring center, teaching other women with disabilities in her community.
Her initiative has not only improved her own income but also empowered others—multiplying the program's impact.
The true success of Apna Rozgar lies not just in business growth, but in:
Each beneficiary stands as proof that opportunity, not charity, brings sustainable change.
